Comet Holmes

Topic: InspirationalPoems

I saw a light in the sky tonight
Twas not the moon I speak of, but the amazing
Cosmic spectacle of
An exploding comet,
I shut off the porch lights, I
Took out my binocs, and
I looked at the sideways
W-shaped throne of Cassiopeia in
The northeastern sky
A little below, near a
Star in Perseus,
There it was
In all its white-hot brilliance
It may have only been a
Globular white haze in the
Sky
But it was beautiful
To the right of Perseus
Lay the cluster of stars
Known as the Pleiades
Both brighter and dimmer stars shone
Their scintillating light
In an almost cane-shaped
Cluster
A beauty in the sky, I say,
A beauty in the sky
I see, I feel,
I taste,
The brilliance of the cosmos
Its balance helps life flow
I love to sky watch
Knowing that something is
Happening up there
Is a great comfort
Because it shows that time
Has no bearing on the beauty
Of the universe
Yet it is also disturbing
Because it shows that
Time is moving along, as
It should, but knowing that,
It may soon fold over. The
Universe is just a graphic
On a greeting card that the
Gods and goddesses trade
One day, we may be in the
Hands of another
Scary to think it,
But to know --
That is tough
Only because we may
Never know what lies
Beyond our galaxy
Hundreds of star systems,
With planets, and we are
The only ones?
I'd like to think we are not
But the truth is out there as
They say,
And one day, we may find a
Population of poets, bards, and
Singers of song, artists, and writers,
All of the Romance of star clusters,
Colourful gasses, and black holes.
I think,
Therefore I know that I can
Reach it one day
The salvation of man is pre-
Determined; we are all going
To the Heavens,
And Cassiopeia will be there,
As well as Perseus, and
Orion, Sagittarius the archer, and
Leo the lion
There is more out there
Than just a starry void
Scientists may find, just
Maybe, that space isn't
Really cold at all,
But as warm as the sun-
Kissed grass on Earth
Free me, oh starry abyss
Of eternal night,
Free me, you cluster of
Glittering stars,
Free me, oh, giant planets of
The universe
Free me, thou gaseous,
Colourful nebulas,
Free me, oh, holes of
Inky blackness that leads
To nowhere
Nowhere but our minds
Collectively, we need the
Heavens
It is not as cold as we think
As I write, new branches of thought
Grow out, and all because
I saw a light in the sky tonight

A stunning write. I've been perusing the night sky myself, but I need some binoculars for sure. Haven't seen the comet yet. Damn, with your excellent directions and my binocs, I shouldn't miss it. Loved the write. Thanks for sharing.
Peace,
Laura (who loves to star gaze)
