October and the Horrid Weeping

October and the Horrid Weeping

---------------------------------------------
***
Past the graves , into the fog.
A cold sun is sinking down
Shapes haunt the rolling mist
peeking 'round the dying elms

The woods are like a tomb here ;
a tightning paranoia.
The path becoming darker now
into an endless night.

I long for that October moon ;
full and cold to light my way.
Hearing things I've never heard
things that howl and bite.

I know I hear them ; women weeping
somewhere near the riverside.
I wander through the black 'n' mist.
What terror might this river hide?

I spied them kneeling 'pon the rocks ,
in a circle , as if in prayer.
Gowns of flowing dirty white.
Ghoulish shapes , blackened hair.

Hidden in the shadowed gloom ;
I heard their weeping, sobbing cries.
Saw their faces , gnashing teeth
washed in blood up to the eyes.

Then as moonlight broke the clouds
saw the thing for which they kneeled.
Three children half devoured ,
freshly killed and twitching still.

I turned in sudden , sickened horror
feeling madness rise within.
Soon I struggled , came to grips
and looked upon the scene again.

My eyes , in terror , noticed they
were now staring back at me.
Silently ,wtih pallid faces
dripping blood , they glared at me.

Crashing through the endless woods.
I ran but they were faster still.
I ran from the horrid weeping ;
horrid weeping as I fell.

*shivers*

"Creepy" is a good word for this, doug --- I mean that, of course, with all due respect ('tis the season, no?). I believe I even emitted an "oh, ewww" aloud a couple times. lol

Should you have any more to post like this one, you might consider posting them with a warning of "Not to be read by small children (and/or... squeemish adults) unless there is time enough to overwrite these images prior to bedtime." *laughs* Here's hoping I don't revisit this scene tonight!!

Holy HECK, doug!! I wanted to comment on this the night before, when I
read it, but alas, time did not allow. So I am back now for another c h i l l i n g
read! Chilling indeed!! Damn, this was horrible gruesome! (and a
bit demented, if you don't mind my saying so .. lol) Gosh, what an
imagination you have! Ever thought of writing a book?

This was such a creepy read, in fact, that I LITERALLY shivered upon
finishing. (no jest!) Now THAT, is emotive, my friend.

You have been absent for FAR too long! Nice to see a new write. =)

Oooh, that ending gave me the chills!! Masterfully written, my dear friend. As always, you drag the reader by the hair on your ghastly yet riveting journeys into darkness... Beautiful. So glad to see you are still writing, ^_^. Just posted a piece, I think you'll enjoy it, *grins*. A wonderful poem for the lovely month of October; creepy, indeed, yet it satisfies the beast within. Thanks so much for sharing, Dusty. Love your work. Hope to see more soon, :). Ta for now.

Eternally,

Your friend in darkness and in light,

~S.

You sir, have a gift!

This is fascinating. You know how to paint a dark portrait and stir the imaginations and goosebumps of your reader. This is perfect for the Halloween season but just as well year round. It's eerie, dark, and refreshing (I was not sure I would ever use those three words together)

I loved every stanza, every line, every word. Your flow is outstanding and your word choices are masterful. But your imagery is your greatest strength. You are a poet painter and for a reader nothing is more compelling!

SUPERB!
