The Moon and the Monkey
His face,
Like a moon beam at midnight,
Shining a pure cream light,
Bring hope,
Seeking guidance,
Feeling peace,
Cold, alone,
And wandering,
Too far to reach,
Looking all around,
Never seeing,
Always grimly smiling,
Trying to catch reflection on the water’s surface,
The Monkey falls; head long into the pitch below,
Again and again,
Til’ as ice frozen bones,
I lay,
Gazing upward,
Why does my heart long for something out of reach,
Why does my dream whisk me to him,
Are you not a man?
Do you not have eyes?
No, more like a rock you are,
Somewhere in a space I can never reach,
Like a pearl hidden in the sea,
Your heart remains to me,
Like a blue rose whispered in legend,
Your soul stays to me,
Like the frigid wind never to be held,
Your hands not to be grasped by mine,
The moons far stare forever to be eclipsed,
Your eyes are kept from considering me,
And the night,
Oh, sweet night of endless suffering,
Everlasting,
Burning away the ice,
Pushing me once again to plunge,
Face forward into a reflection of my hope,
The fire blazes,
Cutting the cold night’s grip,
I cry,
Steam emerges to boil my skin,
Pain, loneliness, heart-break,
Nothing new
My destitute being remains in frozen paralysis,
What can be said about the Moon and the Monkey?
One in heaven, one in hell,
What can be said about you and me?
One like as frost, one aflame,
I should run into dawn’s breaking,
Impossible the Monkey wants to reach the Moon,
Yet again and again I fall,
Unable to moving into morning,
Until the Moon’s blotted out by the sun,
What a hated sun of times doing,
For all nights fade into distant memory.
