The Swing

Contributed by kiss4roq on Tuesday, 2nd October 2007 @ 02:38:53 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I ran out the door and into the yard
As fast as I could, heart beating hard
In the middle of the yard I found myself
The swing and I against all else

I jumped up high right onto the seat
And began vigorously thrusting my feet
Higher I went, way up into the sky
Falling back down with the wind’s lengthy sigh

Escaping the pains of my everyday life
I head for the heavens, away from the strife
As high as I go, I’m almost over the top
And now I know my legs will never stop

The sun is now long past gone
But my body’s still going strong
Up over my troubles, and over strain
Over my life, just as my color drains

I’m suffocating now from a loss of breath
As the harsh wind pounds down on my chest
My legs don’t stop working, they never will
Until my dreams are completely fulfilled

I’ll get over this life and this endless ordeal
Over the pain that I constantly feel
Up high in the heavens I’ll begin to sing
Just me, the tree, and the old wooden swing

What a wonderful piece! Amazing what those small things we enjoy so much can do for our outlook. They allow us to see past all the crap going on around us. Keep on swinging, friend! :)

An amazing read, very nostalgic in feel....(I too like to swing and I'm 43) there is something about whizzing through the air with the hair blowing in the wind....nice. Sounds like the swing is your "place" ..your "safe-haven" so to speak. Good rhyming.
Thanks for sharing.
Peace,
Laura
