The Universe will have it's Way

For this writing assignment I had to write about "a first time experience". I thought of several things...many of them cliched that I didn't want to write about. I settled on writing about the first time I came back home after being away in Cali.
Back there, where the indestructible sun
never closes it's eyes, and snow
a mystery--a memory now--back then
I would gluide on my beach cruiser
down winding ocean drives and catch the glint
of sun reflecting off peaks of waves.
And sometimes I would walk to the end of the road,
find a path across the large boulders
hugging the interior of the Santa Cruz Harbor, and land
like a seagull under the shadow of the lighthouse,
open a book to read or just listen
to the rhythmic pattern of crashing waves, laughing children,
ecstatic dogs challenging the sea's massive waves,
and the occasional ship headed towards infinity
blasting it's horn in triumph.
But now, back where the merciless sun
bears his ruthless teeth and the envious snow,
at war with ice, unexpectedly crawls into our shoes
while we scrape our windshields--back home, for the first time, since then--
what will happen now that I've betrayed paradise?
Who knows? What matters
I'm sure, will still carry on
our conversation, for no matter
where I am, I am
always here.

i definitely like this. a good first experience, too. not the usual, although still very important.
especially, i still love how in detail you get, and then how your ending is...wonderful. with something so simple, but yet speaks just as much. so true, as well.
"where I am, I am
always here."
that's...just the perfect was to say it, really.
