Still Love You

My life revolves around the next time I get to see you
To hold your hand, and kiss your lips, and to just be near you
I get the same feeling every time I see you as I did when we first met
This instant spark of glee and the feelings when my palms start to sweat

But it’s that time again, time for our goodbyes
Same routine always with those lengthy sighs
Neither of us wants to be apart for so long
But our relationship stays strong

I say “I love you” and it’s like its just talk
A kiss, and the I love you vanishes as you walk
I close the door and rush to my window
Peek through every time just to see you go

Around the corner you quickly transcend
I have only the memory of this weekend
I clench my heart and begin to cry
Fall to the floor and let out a sigh

I tell myself I need to quit
“He’ll be back before you know it.”
But it always seems like forever
Even when we were just together

This weekend we spent with one another
Was one just like many of the others
Lately it’s been different you see,
Not anything like it used to be.

We held hands and it was like magic
Now I think he just takes it for granted
It’s not enough for him anymore
Sometimes it’s even as if it’s a chore

We’re drifting apart, but not physically
I can no longer count on him in reality
It’s not that he doesn’t love me
I guess I just don’t satisfy his needs

I know that when I say no, It wont matter
I know that in time my heart will shatter
I know that I’ll do anything for him, no matter what
Even when I get that distinct feeling in my gut

Sometimes I don’t have choice
It’s like I don’t even have a voice
But I love him all the same
Even when I’m filled with shame

I miss when you didn’t have to apologize at our every goodbye
When I was that girl and you were that guy
When we’d do anything for one another
And when we would do anything to be together

I know that you love me,
But I know you won’t protect me,
I know what I feel is love
I’m just not sure it’s mutual as it once was

I don’t feel safe with you anymore,
You don’t look out for me anymore,
I want things back to the way they were,
But I know this is just a dream of a blur.

I miss when our love was pure
And nothing in life was for sure
But after all you’ve done to me
I still love you, unconditionally
