A LETTER OF LOVE

A LETTER OF LOVE (SHORT STORY)

We met quite by chance, on a cool, clear, March night. Both of us looking up at the stars. I was in awe of you right from the start, after gazing longingly into your eyes. They were like sparkling jewels. You were Beauty. I was the Beast.

Normally, men like me ( short, overweight & unattractive) are intimidated by women
of great beauty. We know that even in our wildest dreams, we could never be all you were
capable of possessing, or even desired to possess. Because of a mans ego, and the fact that rejection is the most feared death blow to it, we never dare chance that type of pain. Death is preferable to rejection. And all too often, those same women seem to gravitate to the handsome, dangerous playboy types, who are only interested in short term flings,
which inevitably fall way short of a lasting commitment, but are full of temporary excitement.
How could we compete with that? We know we aren’t jocks and assume that’s what a beautiful girl dreams of. Even though we do dream and envy, we fail to try to reach the unattainable.

For the first few minutes, I feel like I was a typical male; in awe of your unbelievable beauty, and quite uncomfortable, as I felt out of your league, and lacking in so many ways.
But right away, you put me at ease.

Before too much time had gone by, I had opened up to you in a way I had never done with anyone in my entire life. But even more amazingly, you opened up to me as well, like no one else had ever done. This created a bond between us that I didn’t expect to go anywhere, or at least beyond the night. Why ? Because of my fragile male ego. I believed
reality would soon kick in and you would find your Ken to your Barbie, and I would be
quickly forgotten.

I was very surprised the way you actually appeared to be interested in what I had to
say. You seemed to be showing genuine respect and concern for me. Normally, I was a man of very few words. When I did talk to someone, I kept it brief, and to the point. I never let anyone inside my mind, ever.

You honored me that night by opening up to me, entrusting me with feelings straight from your heart. I began to notice something astonishing as you talked. I saw an inner beauty that matched your outer beauty. I saw a tender, loving heart of a woman, a daughter, a mother, and a friend. I fell in love that night.I had no choice. My heart became yours.

You now fill up my senses. You are the air that I breathe; the light of my life; the girl in my dreams; the song in my heart and on my lips; the greatest inspiration in my life, and for the rest of my life. In you I finally feel complete.

Why do I love you? Simply because you are YOU!
