This week, I was assigned to write about an abnormal subject, such as a bone fracture, a pinecone, a storm drain, a dead fish etc and make it interesting through carefully drawn details. I chose to write about a funnel cloud.
As though the sun vanished,
and the moon extinct,
we light candles
in our suburban homes, revealing
a path to gather together
in a crowded pile
of blankets and pillows,
a few valuable possessions.
Stillness, finally
the insects cease their endless squacking,
stick their antennas into empty space listening
as we also hide,
listening.
Outdoors, the cone extends
from the towering cumulous clouds.
No one knows if it will drop
it's tail, swagger like a lizard,
lick us up and suck us down
into it's empty belly.
The cracking of timber,
an angry train,
shattered glass,
this is all we know
huddled together
like mice in winter.

Wow such details for a twister, or tornado. Great explanation. Like this alot. keep writing creative writes, they are more interesting. Made you feel if there was a storm brewing and now you run.

Good write. Made me feel like I was in the midst of the storm. Mother Nature is one powerful lady. Thanks for sharing.
