The Gifts That Were Stolen

Contributed by CatKin on Sunday, 2nd September 2007 @ 07:07:55 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

To ONE I lost my innocence
and my faith in human-kind.
I learnt the sad importance
of weight and strength and size.

To TWO I lost my hope of love:
I lost my only child.
I learnt that I am not enough.
I learnt to believe lies.

To THREE I lost my prettiness,
my confidence and pride.
I learnt to feel that I was blessed –
I learnt that love could die.

To FOUR I lost my very soul:
my Spiritual beliefs.
I learnt that my heart is cold
and the world is full of thieves.

To FIVE I lost my tallent;
my last remaining gift.
I learnt that, when all is spent,
there is only emptiness.

So, from day one right to the end
Like ice, we melt away.
There is no love, there are no friends –
just an ever-growing space.

wow .. I truly hope this is not how you feel deep down. No one has any power that you do not give them.

(easy to say, I know)

residual emotion and pain is so hard to overcome, but it can be done. All are not alike. (trust me on that).
It's so easy to blame external factors for our misfortunes and hurt, and yes, sometimes there is
truth in that. People are cruel, (both genders) as is this world. But as Henley says, in his VERY moving
piece, "I N V I C T U S "

"It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul"

When we take charge of our destination, the journey becomes much more enjoyable and tolerable. That's
not to say there won't be disappointments and heart ache, but knowing WE are at the helm of our own ship
allows us more power to ignore and/or let it go.

Powerful emotions here, but I must disagree with the last stanza. There is much to be had ... one only need to look.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
