Another Bottle Of Kiona

Another Bottle Of Kiona

The label read Kiona and
It made me think of you
A ’99 Merlot
I thought might go
With a pasta dish
Or two

That was your alma mater
And where I started second grade
So I picked one up
To raise a cup
To memories
That fade

The first glass was for Grampa
Then I remembered our first beer
The first bar we found
Once they laid him down
But I don’t recall a
Single tear

A year then passed between us
Don’t think it was much more
I heard you laugh
Stopped in my tracks
There at the
Chapel door

It was my cousin’s wedding
She asked me to attend
And seeing you
Suddenly I knew
Some things we never
Will ammend

Your daughters both were married
You gave neither one away
So what a place
To see your face and
What was I supposed
To say

That day you met my daughter
Followed me home at reception’s end
Stayed for awhile
Managed a smile
Shook hands like we
Were friends

So now, some twelve years later
Without a single word from you
A surprise E-mail
Has me derailed
Don’t know what I
Should do

I’m certain I will answer
Though I know not what I will say
It seems to me
That I might need…

Another bottle of Kiona
And perhaps…

Another day

Another well rhymed and certainly well timed poem. What does one say? good question. Top marks from bern.

Wow, that's an emotion-packed poem. The way it crosses the page conjures a feeling of halting, taken-abackness, I suppose, which goes very well with the message.

Your daughters both were married
You gave neither one away
So what a place
To see your face and
What was I supposed
To say

Awesome stanza there. Well done, Scott!

Andrew

Really, what would you say? Well, at least it inspired a very well written and emotional poem.

Wow man, that was an excellent but painful read. My god, how weird this must be for you. I cannot imagine. Thanks for sharing this intimate part of you. *hugs you tight*
Peace to you,
Laura

Wow, I did not expect that outcome, the poem was emotional enough and then to add that note gives your words even more weight. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for you, what a situation to find yourself in. Its hard enough when an old friend gets back in contact, knowing what to say after years have passed and built up a wall of awkwardness and uncertainty.
Great poem, I really got involved with it and I wish you all the best when you (if you) reply.

Naz,twelve years without contact, and then an e mail.I can totally understand that you'd be stumped for a reply.
Next time I have a glass of Merlot,I'll recall your poem and raise a glass to more frequent contact.
A poem with heart that induces the reader to reflect on absent friends and kin.A memorable poem and a top read.
