Just Beyond The Horizon...

Life’s struggles often leave us crying into our pillows for hours at a time, at points we find ourselves struggling to keep our eyes open… All the while people light cigarettes that burn through the night, unaware of the pain and misery occurring just beyond the horizon… Just beyond that horizon lies a man beside himself with grief as he watches his family die in front of his eyes. Just beyond that mountain ahead lies a mother and child together, their throats raw from thirst, and their stomachs empty yearning for a piece of bread to be thrown their way yet all their left is with prayer, and hopes for a better tomorrow .. All the while a family hides under a table, afraid to pray to their god, afraid to go outside, because they know that the streets have become cemeteries, for the Unknown Soldier, the same soldier who might be your friend, your cousin, your nephew, or even your father or son. Sad to see babies taking their first breathe of this frigid earth, while some take their last, grasping for one more...

Great job! I really like where this poem goes...it's a journey, very emotional, and your love for humanity is ultimately what drives this piece home. I like the dark/sad/melencholy images you have going...you capture life very well. The way you write reminds me of the way I used to write. Your word selection is good at expressing your feelings, but I have a feeling that as you continue writing, you will become even better. Keep it up. You're on the right path.
Be True,
