My turn to die by: Adeline Lee
The grass, the trees, the birds, the clouds.
The world as we see it.
The things as we know them.
These worldly things seem so much different now that they’ve passed away.
What if I joined them, what’s the harm?
I do not wish to scare you, and please do not cry.
I love you all, but it’s my turn to die.
I take it all in, but hard as I try, I can’t help but think, and wonder why.
Why I followed him that dreadful day.
How he could tear mine, and others, lives away.
My heart is screaming.
My tears are streaming.
The pain is suffocating my soul.
I can feel my breath begin to fade.
Death takes on an ugly shade.
I couldn’t help expecting a bright warm light.
Wondering if there would be peace, and no more night?
But I cannot explain this land of blue.
All I can say is that I see you.
And I shall always be there watching you from above; my friends, my murderer, and all the others I love.
My heaven in the sky is where I shall look down to earth and smile.
Because I know I’ll see you again, though it may be a long while.
I wish you all a long and happy life, far from misery and strife. And now I must go, but please do not cry.
For my time has come, it’s my turn to die.

the poem very touchingly works out the theme of death from an authentic emotive angle. |
