21st century thoughts...

What now?
The 20th century arrived
and vanished,
exploded
into millions of ticking time bombs
left in place for my generation.
When Ginsberg
and Creely
watched the atom bomb
drop,
what did they think?
It seems clear,
the shattered shrapnel
imbedded itself
in every person(s)
soul, so that now
I can look back and retrace
through history
its mercilessly unwavered
imprint.
In that desparate lonely era
I see Ginsberg. I see Creely.
Where am I? They
are dead,
gone
to return
to that knowing
place, and while
their death
puts their life
in perspective, I
have nothing to place
in context, the modern
mind.
It is up to me to create this vision,
so that fifty years from now
young readers will see
humanity's predicament, from which
consciousness continues the
evolution.
I see now how it must happen.
I must create. But how?
With no knowledge,
I have only memories of
Ginsberg, Creely, Paz, Neruda,
their take, their tales, their feelings,
their fears--But my fear
is to tritely rehash the voice
of the dead. Where is my voice?
What do I have to give?
These questions need not
consume themselves with
worry, for while I know
that I know nothing, I know
that life steadily evolves, and
these answers will reveal
themselves as I write,
unthinking, reflecting mind
in this time.
