This Twenty-first Century

Contributed by ammar on Saturday, 11th August 2007 @ 06:35:42 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

The negligence of the law, the attempts to capture more, the hunger for earthly treasures,
Does all this not guide man towards satanic, unlawful pleasures?

The rise of immodesty, the loss of moral values, the spread of corruption,
With such low standards of characters, are we not awaited by ultimate destruction?

The terrible massacres, the never-ending battles, the desire to take others' lives away,
For acquiring the freedom to live, why ever make the courageous pay?

The destruction by war tanks, the constant killing by the troops, the firing of missiles by jets from above,
But why do they not possess the mightiest of the weapons, which is love?

The support for falsehood, the suppressing of the weak, the war against equal rights,
Have they not turned this Earth into miserable days and gloomy nights?

The greed for power, the race for wealth, the ever-increasing desire to rule,
Have not these evils made, the human being of today, the greatest fool?

The oppressing of the innocent, the rule of power, the return in the world of slavery,
But, they understand not, can cowardice ever excel over bravery?

The drowning of justice, the vanishing of peace, the temporary victory of sin,
Ah, the twenty-first century, I am ashamed to be living in!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
