The Young

Contributed by Malcolmsdreamgirl on Monday, 6th August 2007 @ 11:59:36 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I sat in my green garden, coloured flowers everywhere
Drink in hand ,chilled laid back, without a single care.
Soaking up the sunshine, from the blue, blue, sky above.
Feeling warm contented, in my world.... surrounded by much love

As I sat and sipped my ice cold drink,, I suddenly overheard
Not the sweet song from the songthrush, but something more absurd
I heard the voice of a young man, walking past behind the fence
I heard a voice filled with anger, full of pain, making little sense.

He spoke of being lonely, nothing there for him atall.
I stood to see if I could see him, if I peeked above the wall.
He said he hated working, what had life instore for him?
He asked where was the end of the tunnel? for all he could see was grim

I went from feeling happy, to also feeling... pain inside
I felt in my heart of hearts so sad, for this lad who tried
I wondered why a soul so young, should feel so low and scared?
I wondered was there anyone? anyone for him that cared?

It seems so common these days, for our young to feel so bad
What happened to young lives of laughter and happiness?... like we had?
Is it that they grow so early now? from baby to a man?
Is it because society MAKES them ? not just because they can?

What can we do for our young out there? to bring the innocence back?
To take away responsibility, put lives back on track?
We are responsible for their futures, it's us... that them, should guide
Protecting them from Real life pain, at least showing we have tried

Lets give our young back their childhood, so like us they can enjoy
Sitting safe and sound within family home, playing with their toys
Stop making them grow up so young, least give them half a chance
Then maybe we will see them grow... be happy? sing and dance?

Think twice before you blame them, how wild todays youth are
It's our fault they are commiting suicides self harming deep cut scars
Lets give them back that comfort zone, the one we all once had
Then maybe some can smile again in this world so filled with BAD

Yes your poem says it all we tend to blame the youth of today and most of us forget that we were young and did many things that our parents frowned on. Give the kids an opportunity it is up to them to take it or not but at least let them make their own mistakes. bern

This is right on the money my friend. Cause without hope there can be no ambition and
more room for anything goes type of thinking.
