Black Iris

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Wednesday, 1st August 2007 @ 07:17:31 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Rosebuds
Soft tender
Red as your lips
that I oft remember

Gentle was your touch
Stern was your voice
Black irises that spoke louder
than any punishment ever could

There for all
No one would be alone
I think I now realize
Why you offered so much
hospitality...
~Like me you hate being solitary~

You were the rock
Strength beyond many
You were...

My Mom

Laura Howell Horner

Author's Note:
Written in honor of my mother RoseMarie Howell-Folta
who passed away 24 years ago..on July 9th.
My mother died of cancer, I was a young 18 year old girl.
There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of her.
I had found some lines in a small notebook that I'd written about her
a couple of years ago.
After finding the words....more words came...and then this piece of writing.

Oh Laura, hunni, this is gorgeous. Just a lovely, LOVELY piece of beauty dedicated to (I'm sure) a lovely woman.
I lost my sister to cancer, and although I had her longer than you had your mother, I know what it's like to lose
someone close, that you love, and that you miss everyday, to such an unkind disease. I ache for you, sis.

When I saw the title, I thought this was going to be about a flower ... and the thing of it is ... it was. :) A rare,
beautiful flower that blooms, ever still, within your very own, sweet and wonderful heart. These lines
truly touched me, hun. A wondrous remembrance of someone who still holds the power to melt your heart.
as does this write ...

love it. Peace to you, sis. Always ~

~MG

Wow this caught me by complete surprise so
very lovely and touching. My sister Laura you are a writter of marked distinction when it come's to evoking the tears as of late. Quite
powerful yet with such descrete mannerisums.

((((((((peace 2u My Hippie Sister))))))))))

and a most gentle of healing 2 your loving heart . . .

wow, what an honor. I am sure she loves it. My dad passed away 18 years ago and I know that same feeling.

Being an orphan, I am without a similar reference, yet I feel the void you express so well. I love the image of the Iris...very interesting comparison.
Please accept my heartfelt, albeit belated, sympathy -- I realize that isn't much comfort for the 18 year old of then but perhaps the person of today can smooth some of the edges that memory may possess with it.
Thank you ever so much for sharing...
michael

Laura~
My dearest Hippie as of late your writes have been real tear jerkers. I have reread this over and over again and with each time I read it I felt your pain through every word.
She's always with you my dearest Hippie. Staying close to you for she lives on inside your heart and through your memories of her.
She'd be mighty proud of you Laura~
*much love & hugs to you*
