My first Granddaughter Seanna Sphia has Arrived. July 29,2007 8:34am 7lbs 11 19 inches long
Staying as cool as a cucumber and doing all the breathing exercises just like in the book.
She read ,listened and observed and never did she cry out loud.
The baby was settling down in her own sweet time this day
As Grandma and Poppa watched on.
From 10:00pm she was comfortable and smiling as the day began.
The many regiment of nurses that came through the ward to her room
Were many, as they changed shifts . Each introduced themselves .
Some more friendly then others and every one had a word of advice.
I was getting a bit worn watching as she struggled through labor pains
And still she asked nothing for Pain .
As she said "It wasn't so bad"
She genuinely laughed and joked till after supper
All the while the pains grew more intense and still the baby did not budge.
I returned just before midnight to wait the night with her.
I could only offer my words of encouragement and breath and relax as she did.
And wipe her brow and remember when she was a beautiful baby too.
I watched as the pain grew harder and the shots of morphine had not done any tricks to ease her pain.
All she remembers in sleeping in and out and waking and panting during contractions.
I would look deep in her face as she slept, her eyes squeezed tight through the long minutes.
Then release and flutter, and she would snore soft and low again.
The weather however had its own ideas around 1:00am it began to rain
And blow and the skies opened up and it poured.
I stood watching the rain washing against the hospital window ,in the dark, I held her hand.
The thunder clapped and the lighting flashed and streaked across the sky.
I whispered for her not to be afraid even the angels were celebrating .
Having a party I told her as if it would be anytime now.
This was at 2:00am.
Well it lingered on and as the moon lifted and them melted away we had a warm early morning.
7:00am July 29 Ya could smell nothing but freshness in the air.
The nurse came in and said it was time and as they prepared,
Poppa and I stood and counted down .
Seanna Sophia came in as slick as you please.
A small little cry and the wriggling of tiny limbs they rubbed and wrapped and lay her in mamas arms.
Tiny, adorable, cute and so baby new.
The smile upon the delivery doc's faces and the glow of love from Mom and Dad
And all who watched there ,was breathless.
A moment I will cherish for the rest of my life .
She has given her Our Mothers Middle name so Great Grandma Pankey will always be here .:-)
I called Grandpa and both brothers and families,Uncles and Aunties too.
A few more others I knew and I babbled on,
As only a proud Mom and Grandmother could do
" Her Daughter had a daughter of her own.
All the parts in the right places and all the little digits all there
She's the color of a ,gentle fawn, tan
And looks like her eyes maybe brown
Her hair is brown ,and as soft as the belly of chick,
Covering thinly her tiny head.
Brown Auburn like her Mothers and Brown Auburn as mine is too.
As I stood looking at the baby my husbands' arms around me .
It was my proudest moment yet as long as I have lived
And I Thanked God I was not alone.
I have to laugh to myself , at the staff on the ward,
Our family members All Crowded In
All different colors,races and ages
we all paraded in.
They must have wondered who was this New Borne Baby
And Mom ,with her very own league of nations.
And All we could say when we are asked this always.
WE are Family :-)
Now the coincidence to all of this is ..
My only daughter was borne 7lbs. 11 onces
and her daugther Seanna Sophia 7lbs. 11 onces
So was I borne the extact same weight
7lbs. 11 onces
in 1952*
