Be a kid as long as you can

Contributed by jayced on Sunday, 29th July 2007 @ 07:05:38 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

My mama used to say be a kid as long as you can
At the time I was too young to understand
This life these adults live is crazy compared to being a kid
Having to deal with finding a job that will make you enough money to pay your bills
And find a spouse that yields
Your interest, your goals, not to mention looks to kill
Unknowingly that there was a whole world, besides what you see everyday
Unknowingly that people are judged by their skin
And there is no exact explanation of how your existence began
Rarely do those child hood dreams come true
And that few children get a sneak preview of this harsh world these adults face
Some got careers and great finances, but lack the relationship of their partner
While others have to do inhumane things just to put food on their tables
Some work dreadful nine to fives
While others do back breaking labor for crumbs is how they provide
But we want to be grown so bad

Just cuz you can vote or buy cigarettes or liquor don’t make yo grown
If that’s the case you can be grown and still live at home
Grown is being totally independent and progressing with the vision of building a family
Grown is being the oldest sibling and running a household
And those that trade in freeze tag for a freezer bag
Having to be head of their home
Providing for their siblings while giving up their child hood
But you rush to be grown
Slow down
Grown is walking out of your parents door and leaving everything they paid for
Grown is finding a career after college not a job
Grown is choosing your own destiny
Finding your niche in life and hoping that it make you enough money to live
Learning all the earths history and wisdom
And being who you are and establishing your own personality
No more recesses and play time
Now I donate hours to studying
And building a future that I hope will satisfy this roller coaster economy
A world where there’s no make believe or reality
TV shows influence these closed minds to stay closed
And commercials show people how to feel insecure
Remember back when everything was so innocent and so pure
One decision can instantly make your poor
People hate one another enough to take their given right
Money shapes our goals and dreams
You can get masters and not have plan
Then its worth less than paper its printed on
Relationships don’t last do to nature’s hormones
That makes you prone to a phat ass
That eventually destroys a happy home

So be a kid as long as you can

Young
Having my mind set on two ways and pagers instead
Oh ways to turn my pages
We as young people are rushing to get old
Forgetting that it’s all down hill sparrow after the big 2-0
Trying to rush and be grown and sexy
Trying to seem that you’re superior to your peers
Giving this fallacy that we’re more mature than our counterparts or friends
Trying to go from clubs to cabarets
Wearing gyms shoes to wearing grandpa slippers
Everybody wants to be old
Until they get them wrinkles and corns on toes
That hair line starts to recede like the shoreline
And the top well that’s divided into smaller islands
Them aging spots are aged
Contacts are now replaced with cataracts
Them 38D’s that were sexy
Now hang to two inches from the knobby knees
So please,
Don’t rush, be a kid as long as you can
While you laughed at those who were in the classroom while you walked the halls
You were so used to being fast
Now period
Your ass needs a minutetopause (menopause)
But you rushed to get grown
Trying to stay with the hottest trend now a mid life crisis has began
Be a kid as long a s you can
Trying to use fake ids so catz can think you older than she
When you playing right into his trap because pedophiles is his act
Adolescents smoking and drinking
Good, cuz now after college no competitors for job seeking
Stopping their brain cells where they excel
Trying to be more mature not understanding it’s a state of mind
And not some clothes you put on
That you didn’t design
We all are just dying to be on oxygen tanks
And bengay is your new stench
Strapping on some depends
Doing some routine is how your day ends
So my concept be a kid at heart
But be a kid as long as you can

What a marverlous read. I love the spoken language used. Plain laymans english easy to interupt .Good flow and kept this reader glued to the screen. Bravo good advice on board.
