Fields of Green

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Wednesday, 25th July 2007 @ 01:48:22 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

~I asked Joesie the other day when I was looking out at the fields..."How many colors of green do you think it would take us
from the big box of crayons, to color this picture before us?"
My daughters reply?, "Lots". *smiles*
Well, I repeated the conversation to my mother-in-law and then out came this write last night~

The pictures are the view from my front porch.

Just how many would it take?
My brown orbs searching all around
So many hues in tones of greens
So how many colors from the crayon box
would it take
to color this picture before me?
~the citronella candle flickers~

Swinging back and forth
Birds flying back and forth
Made a nest in a small hole
in a pillar on the porch
They seem curious when we're around
No worries my friend
~I smile and feel so humbled~

Fields in my vision
Corn and soybeans...
fields of grass
And they do blow in waves
Yes they do
Waves of green flowing endlessly
it would seem
~I can't help but smile~

Grandfather maple sits happily
whilst my boy is at play
Matchbox cars and Transformers
amongst the old tree's roots
When I was a child I too
had me some roads here and there
at the base of that giant
~I know He is smiling~

I look out and it's my paradise
My sanity
A refuge from all the ugliness
that mills about in this world
I'm blanketed by my country quilt
Woven from sweat and love
of farmers...neighbors...friends
~I feel happy to be alive~

I come here every warm morning
coffee and herb in hand
to the swing that's hung in the same place
for years and years and...
I contemplate...rejuvenate
my nature church
My haven from
all the congestion and confusion
~coffee clouds blow my way~

Fields of green
Patchwork beauty unmatched
by the best seamstress
Abstract lines flow
How lucky am I
To Be Here
Mountain Meadow...Fern...
Asparagus and Magic Mint
Grab me those from the crayon box
Let's color, shall we...
These fields of green
~Captured forever in my mind~

Oh Laura this is just beautiful, I can picture this all and it creates such a tranquil scene in my mind. But I think that more than anything the thing I can feel here is understanding in your appreciation of nature. These lines are simply brimming with it, and they are all the better for it!

Thank you, so much, for the read,

Dom

Thank you Laura for a really good poem. It certainly makes a change to find such a gem out of a lot of rubbish that is sent to this list. You painted a picture with words that is certainly better than your crayons. Words sometimes make our lives. Thanks again from bern.

First off Laura those pictures are wonderful and gave me memories of my child hood in Norfolk Virginia. Our yard looked very similar to that. Secondly what a captivating and soft write. Like a cool bed in summer. I could just relax in these impressions and feel at peace. Your descriptions were perfectly beautiful and the poem flowed nicely. It made me feel innocence again for a moment. And that Laura, lol, is hard to do.

BRILLIANT!

My dear sis, this is so beautifully crafted and just damn gorgeous!
I want to quote Bryan Adams at this moment ..

"take this feeling, make it grow"

yeah ... that's what this piece made me feel. I want to bury it
in the earth and watch it grow so everyone from ocean to ocean
can enjoy the beauty and luxuriousness of it all .... I want to
colour with you ... I want to run barefoot through this piece ...
I want to jump from one glorious coffee cloud to the next ...

damn hun. Thank you for this. OH!! I so needed the escape.
And even though I'm not there on that swing with you, it
feels as if I am, vicariously through your words. SO perfect~

This is one of my very favourites of yours. From this moment
on ..

*hugs*
~MG

Laura~
I'm so happy to have stopped by and visited your pages this afternoon .
The clouds here in Melbourne, Oz, are heavy, the wind chilly and the heavens are ready to open up any second now, but my I left that all behind while reading your gorgeous breath taking write. Oh the greenery, the sun, the trees. You left me in a happy mood.
Thank you so much for posting this. It has certainly brightened up my lousy day~
*love n hugs*
