My Son.

anguished
|
My heart clogged and skipped a beat
As the surgeon in white, surfaced
out of the operation booth - like a semi-god,
about to pronounce preordain.
“Your beloved wife lives no more, but left
you an Infant- a gift to pour your love so much and more.”
Shattered and overwhelmed, I embraced
my baby like never before. Tough though
at first for being a father; taking care of the baby,
and I blamed my love for not being there;
days passed by - as bound of love sprout;
as he grew every second, yet my poor
love-starved heart longed to see some more.
Speeding time paused for none until
that moment when my little boy, who now a teen,
dashed through the door with ecstasy
holding the winning trophy for his scholarly-excellence;
we cheered and danced along; capturing the moment
of joy in my inward mind and framed. Looked upward,
smiling at his mother above. “This is our
little baby, my love,” I whispered complacently in the air.
Crushed beneath the arduous rolling time,
grew gray, weak and rickety, my teen boy
now a handsome man of twenty, in uniform
set to serve his country, fighting a battle, which is
not his, nor the desert country he fought.
Until that day; a uniform man came to my doorstep
handed over a sachet and said, “Your son shall
come home no more, he a gallant soldier,
fought his battle like a true champion.”
and they went their way left me alone
in dark shades of gray; now, for whom shall I pray?
Shocked and shattered I stood once again,
No shoulders to cry upon, No loving hands to hold me a
ripened feeble man, Looked up for my love, who stood
with her valiant son, hand in hand awaiting my arrival.
“I failed my love I failed; in keeping my promise I made to thee,”
I whispered in the air, voluble for my Lord to hear.

Oh dear Franco, you have captured my tears again. This
is so damn painful to read. The emotions that pour from
my heart feel so much for this poor father.
but .. there is purpose I believe. Purpose in everything. I
have to believe that, or what is the point, really, right?
This is an excruciatingly emotive piece, my friend. Damn
potent. Every line. Your pen wields a power, Franco. And
that, dear poet, is saying volumes.

This piece brought tears to my eyes too, it is so honest and emotive and such a sad tale.
You write beautifully, here and in all your poems.
Take care,

Franco,
each ounce of my fiber welled up letting lose a few tears as I read this poem. I felt each emotion you showed here through your words..... Elation, sadness, loss, what can I say? Poetry is our testiment of emotion and you captured it well.

The most heart wrenching piece of art I have read in a long time. Flooded with tears as I realize so many are having that experience in different parts of the world and the what and the why matters no more. Just bring back our sons....well done my dearest friend and bless you. |

I was so moved by this write . So noble a love never goes away never from a father to son
It was sad but a good depiction of the life and role we as parent some lucky to grandparent.
I hope that this write was just a write and that you dear Franco have merry memories yet not written

Such a beautiful poem...It tugs at the heart. I feel the emotion as I journey through the poem as ithough I was truly there. |
