A Recipe For Disaster

designed in the fashion of their own occult
the autocrats come;
they sip from the fermenting sorrow that leaks from my heart:
they like the aftertaste,
so they bottle it up in an Emeril-esque fervor,
add a pinch of blue 73,
a splash of sucruse acetate isobutyrate
and a dash of corporate sponsership, and-
BAM-
it's their own.

they parlay from atop their mythomanic thrones,
basking in the brilliance of thier otherworldly artistries
held together by masking tape,
basting our fears in a decietful kitsch that goes down easy,
whipping our scowls into a froth that imitates flavor,
hiding benind soigne disguises and fated surprises.

"if you're not with us you're bombing us,
if you don't give in you're conning us."

living in a heaven on mars,
fulminating into empty jars:
garish gluttons for glory
vomiting pang-stricken lies,
sputtering spurious allibies,
shouldering neverending tries
to change the colors of our eyes
to something that rhymes
with red, white, or blue-
behead, fight, and subdue-
the price of self-rule;
a leak in the commonwealth
reveals the empire bleeding through.

how sound the parable?
how bound the fiction?
how many pages?
how deep the reason?
how long the aching ironies?

this is madness
this is downpour
this is paralysis
this is chaos
this is languidly sentimental
this is overcooked
this is the end, unavoidable.
