Standing in the rain you hear it call,
You have lost everything but can see it all,
Waves wash over you seep into your soul
Sinking into a night of endless black.
Your senses ensnared quivering from delight,
You knew long ago you have lost the fight,
Struggling to stay above the night.
Your touch enhanced feeling the chill,
Your sight is narrowed as you search for the kill,
No running away for you this time,
The lightning crashes as you begin the climb.
Farther you go as you reach for the top,
The reasons you climb beg you to stop,
The way to hell is where you go,
And for all you care you never slow.
Finally at peace in eternal pain,
Searing the flesh to tear it away,
No need for a shell to cover the soul,
You have fallen into the night that empty black hole.
So all you have overcome to reach the top,
Makes no difference for even now your soul rots.

"Finally at peace in eternal pain"
is one of the best lines I've ever read. |
