Invitation from the blues

Contributed by reprobate on Tuesday, 10th July 2007 @ 04:32:56 AM in AEST
Topic: AmericanTragedy

Stumbling into the noisy blue smog that you can cut
A greasy hiss-click announces hell's portal has shut
Solace will be had in this house where dreams died
Odd comfort to be found on ripped red naugahyde

Paying for your sins with little more than your skin
Forced dances of jaded memories and tears begin
The punishment for being aware is a life sentence
Hoping there's still enough for tonight's pennance

Foolish innocent dreams stuffed in a pauper's wallet
Crumpledbuck fists wait for the bandleader to call it
Just dancing alone now with the dregs and whores
That next step in life's failed waltz was only yours

Staggering world traveler that's not going too far
Who you were is definitely not where you are
Atop squeaky metal stools sad shadow painted
Drinking faded glory stories that grew time tainted

Head shaking to clear all the no's and the know
So that is what happened to old so and so
Boozed lips pursed from bitters and bitterness
Tired eyes lidded against the witless and witness

A tone-deaf band clinks to a worn-out sodden waste
Mediocre happiness has left such a terrible taste
Still hearing the music but doesn't dance any more
A bottled parade poured that trainwreck on the floor

A very good poem about a self pitying failure. I hope God confronts this guy you write about, and quickens him. Ephes.2:1 We will see a differant man then.
God bless

Hmmm You put me there, sitting in the smoky old bar...looking around at the sadness, feeling so much of the sadness and loneliness of that empty world. Wow, I am really impressed with this piece, how I feel so like I am there....maybe pieces of me were. Excellent job penning this write. Thanks for sharing.
Peace,
Laura

wow, michael, this is a deep one, imagery off the charts,
penned beautifully sad if you will- even though there are
tears- i wouldn't exactly say it is a down in dumps poem;
more like resignation and resigned acceptance, ::far and away::
eyes looking back in to the past, solemnly reminiscing with a mind
that will not quietly be quiet....

love n' hugs nessa
