The open window beckons: "take a closer look!"
And so it readily lends a closer gaze.
Upon approach he peers above; not a cloud in
the sky...so he takes his weary gaze below as he
ponders the asphalt sea.
"Nice day for a swim" he thinks, as the waves
encourage him to take the plunge.
Soon it seems that the window is gone, and
there is nothing but an empty hole in a brick
wall...it reminds him of what his life has been like.
He climbs to the edge, checking the sky once again
for a cloud...or anything to act as a blanket of comfort
for his saddened soul...but the sky remains empty.
Now, below, the pebbled sea is raging like a hurricane
of hate; concrete blowing in the wind, twisted metal flying
by the wayside.
He hardly has a choice, and dives his final dive into this
harbor of doom, and, in mid dive, he notices that suddenly
the sea becomes tranquil, like the calm after the storm.
He manages to turn, and gaze upon the sky a final time to
bid it farewell. He now realizes that the sky was full of clouds,
and though he searched moments earlier, as he did his entire
brief life, he was unable to see them.
Midway into his descent he also realizes that the sky itself, even
devoid of clouds, could have offered the comfort for which he sought.
Too late to turn back he embraces the moment and lets himself go,
and takes his final swim in his sea of death.

Wow. Wow. My mouth kinda dropped on this write. Man, by the time I was to the end, my heart was practically racing. You have just captured these thoughts...these feelings so well. Excellent write.
Peace,
Laura (Wow....once again) |
