If I Was...

Contributed by markymark on Monday, 29th July 2002 @ 07:50:36 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

if i walked to where i wanted to be
if i stopped and turned around
if i strained my eyes... would i realise
i'm not even out of town...

if i looked back with a wicked smile
if i chose not to return
if i laughed... would i make them angry
would there jealousy still burn...

if i cried would i make them happy
if i ran would i be a coward
if i turn the other cheek when struck
would i stand out from the crowd...

if i spoke would they want to listen
if i wrote would they wish to read
if i fell would they offer comfort
if i was hungry would they offer feed...

if i was thirsty would they give me water
if i was barefoot would they give me shoes
if i was lost would they give me shelter
if i was winning would they watch me lose...

if i was sleeping would they want to wake me
if i was laden would they share my load
if i was troubled would they not forsake me
if i was angry would they wish to goad...

if i was last would they still walk past me
if i was first would they hold me back
if i was caring, is that a sign of weakness
if i was strong , would they just attack...

if i was dreaming, would it be a nightmare
if a nightmare, was a dream gone wrong
if i woke up, would i lie there screaming
if i screamed would it make me strong...

if the devil he was stood before me
if his finger beckoned towards his head
if his pointing was a crude recruitment
its then i'd realise, i must be dead...

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
