I've Been Digging a Hole

Contributed by Franciswolf on Friday, 6th July 2007 @ 03:00:59 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

I had a girl but needed a lady
least that's what the world seemed to say
so quick to offer advice
before my scars were cleared from the haze

like a cycle to a life
I'd once been the most, inconsequential of host
to this being, unprecedented and true
but the road took a turn, fixtured and learned
now nothing seems sacred
with it's repeats of news

so test all the frozen waters
wear your tie-die boots out on it's face
till the ice comes crashing before you
and armor seems like villainous waste

because i had such a grip on the universe
that i could of crushed it with my own youthful hand
but all the tower's of solitude surrounding my center
cracked by the weight of a woman

I've been digging a hole
so dark, deep, it goes
that no lady could ever fill it
and now i realize, with new gifted eyes
no woman's suppose to fit
because I'm the digger, i make it bigger
there's romance, love, and you
till you get yourself in check
there's a chance to recollect
so wait on the other two

yes, i was lost and am found
by a boy i recall long ago
with ambition, decisions, psychedelic visions
who'd of led me to where i needed to go
he was me, back i see
to a time before i thought so blind
that no obstacle could ever be conquered
without a lover to hold you behind

I've been jumping planes with fake parachutes
just to land in an early tomb
an anvil popped out of it's case
just like a joke on some Sunday morning cartoon
and kids were cracking up on their couches
as i crashed and turned to goo
well i figure it's always seemed funnier
when the joke's not aiming at you

sing well, to the false pretenses
shame off, to the ones far behind
I've been leading a flock for years
not knowing i was walking them blind

yes, I've been digging a hole
so dark, deep, it goes
that no lady could ever fill it
and now i realize, with new gifted eyes
no woman's suppose to fit
because I'm the digger, i make it bigger
there's romance, love and you
till you get yourself in check
there's a chance to recollect
so wait on the other two

you may find someone to guard your visions
or a beauty that matches sight to the stars
but that won't get you to paradise
just give you the prayer it's not far

and there's no person out there to complete you
just pictures to complete your own
you'll end up chasing your life away
like rubble bouncing off of a stone
you'll find you've only fallen
there's a lot to experience out there
and nothings worth close to nothing
without an ounce of that something you fear

And I'm finished digging a hole
so dark, deep, it goes
that no lady could ever fill it
now i realize, with new gifted eyes
no woman's suppose to fit
because I'm the digger, i made it bigger
there's romance, love and you
till you get yourself in check
there's a chance to recollect
so wait on the other two

I love this! Sooo inspirational, so full of a soul who has mades mistakes but is all the better for getting through them.
There is only so much in our lives that can be filled by other people, but the rest has to be nurtured and embraced by ourselves. We need both in life to create a balance in ourselves, and that can be very hard to find because it changes daily.
I like your style as well, you write with an immediacy that is very refreshing.

Take care,
Dom
