One Simple Thing

Contributed by xnoybis on Monday, 25th June 2007 @ 04:18:58 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

The things they say
They don't make sense
Little shop fronts
Meaningless accents

Fruitless endeavors
Things shucked aside
Shriveling on vines
Dreams that have died

People with spirit
Collapsing on themselves
Getting beat down
To retire on shelves

This inhuman flux
To sadden my soul
Guilty for a pleasure
Reinforce my droll

Blind to a reason
Devoid of care
I wish you'd join me
If you so dare

I wish there was anything
That didn't seem dead
Just one simple thing
To get me out of my head

It's nice to see you about the place again, xnoybis -

I heard familiar echoes as I read this... that strange way that one's voice bounces back at itself when trapped within. The last two stanzas really drive it home. Truth is, I imagine they'll hit a bit hard for anyone that has struggled to find their own just-one-thing.....

It's a Grand Canyon sort of phenomenon, you know? You can't imagine it unless you've been there, and you can't forget it once you have. I do so hope you find the rope that will pull you out. It pains me to know that you're reaching for one and not finding it immediately within your grasp. It is there, though, xnoybis. You will find it.

I can't really find any stated meanings herein but what I do see is a correlation to my own little conundrum. That of the unceasing thinker. My friends always joked about how I need a switch to switch off my brain. i.e. get out of my head and go out into the world and LIVE life. I do not know what you were portraying here, but if my story has any resemblance to yours then I can find echoes of it here. I can understand that how oft too much thought can immobilize us and force us to be drawn into the minutiae while time and life passes us by. That is what I get from this. I t is as if you are encompassing all the complexities of the world and it is tiring you. Till you wish that you can just stop and get out of THAT train of thought. Oh well my take on it anyway. But I do like the staccato feel to this write and the complexness it depicts within its actual simplicity.
