The Wall

Topic: selfstruggles

Full of hate
is what I will be
for what you once
had done to me

I placed a stone
a symbol of time
when I condemened you
left you to die

Just a victim
of your lies
but a house of pain
will not arise

These stones around me
markers of shame
each have a meaning
a person to blame

As I grew older
weary and wise
my heart aches
I just want to cry

This wall of stone
that I have built
is now a harbor
of my guilt

I know now
theres no escape
It's just too strong
it's now too late

No love or life
within these stones
now I am here
all alone

Very Well done, I can feel the Pain. I don't know if you know this but in the Old Testament, The Children of Israel were required to take stones and build a pillar to remind them of the past. When I read the verse about placing a stone as a symbol of time it reminded me of that old Testament Fact. You convey very well that is not a wall that is put up over night. Its not a quick drywall. This is a wall of stone, that cannot be penetrated and has been built over a long period of time. Finally, I love how you convey that you initially built this wall for protection, but you eventually realize you have built something that will only isolate you. Very well done. Sorry for the long comment, but I like the Poem.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
