Watching

Contributed by Thespia on Monday, 25th June 2007 @ 07:27:30 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

Through the window
People walk by
unaware of me
sitting here
watching.
People on mobiles
engrossed in conversation
I sit and ponder
what’s going on
in their lives?
I watch
long legs and high heels,
pink shirt, unshaven,
black hair, black clothes.
Teenage punk rockers,
the elderly with sticks,
mothers with three kids.
Two people holding hands,
basking, in each others glow.
Most in a hurry,
friends walking in a row,
not letting the bike behind them go.
A never-ending stream of people,
walking and driving by,
completely oblivious
that I sit here
watching.
Everyone so intent
on their own goals in life,
none stop,
to marvel at the beauty
of the leaves
dancing on the wind,
or the rain
making patterns in the air.
The rabbit scurries under a bush.
The squirrel hides up a tree,
and two birds on a lamppost,
I alone seem to hear,
the sweet melody
they sing together.
Some people will look up,
to shades of grey and black,
where I sit, hiding,
still watching
staring at them back.
And every day
when I have time
ill be here,
sitting,
watching.
As the world goes by.

I adore this! I love sitting there high up in a building and watching all the people going about their lives. I feel a great affinity with this poem and reading it really made me smile. It is nice to sit back and watch sometimes as long we also spend some time out there as the people in the poem.

Take care,
Dom

Full of many thoughts to ponder Thespia. Very beautiful imagery
within this. The only thing I hate about watching the
goings on of people outside my window is that I'm not
out there too!!! lol (stupid responsibilities always getting
in the way of living, eh?)

LOVED (absolutely!), the mention of nature in this. It
was completely captivating ... I would SO love a view like
that from where I work. Unfortunately it is all walls, ceiling
and floors ... :( Great write! Thanks for sharing.
