The Fork in the Unwanted Road

Contributed by Chamaron on Sunday, 24th June 2007 @ 04:13:39 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Since someone put a price on sanity,
Most just do without.
Now they drift through life,
Unable to halt in their self-doubt.

Now they’ve forgotten how to get along,
Seeking rather only peace within.
Breaking apart souls to heal their own,
They become subject to the turbulence of sin.

Convinced only temporary happiness exists,
They seek the safety of their inner caves.
They settle for the delusional solitude,
For to themselves they have become slaves.

Though cold and distant is their refuge,
The battles within will not stop.
Recurring waves of guilt and tears,
Cause their self-esteem to drop.

Skyward gaze begs for hope,
While many persist in their own hell.
For those who dare to venture beyond,
The rest, the hopeless, bid farewell.

I like this - there is much truth here. I wouldn't profess to know all the reasons that we (people) crawl within ourselves and stay there... but won't dispute that many of us do. To some extent, I think we must... but believe we should do so with the intent of learning and making our way back out, as opposed to taking up residence there permanently. Some of us know well those inner caverns - we should know, too, that they are not, by any means, inescapable - and that we should not consider them so for a moment.

I'm... learning. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, it is so much easier to just stay safely inside ourselves where we are less likely to get hurt, and to me that is a part of being human, we do it to protect ourselves. Life can be a constant cycle of ups and downs, and sometimes it is necessary to lock ourselves away to reflect and re-evaluate, it simply makes our appreciation of the light on coming out more brilliant.
A lovely, inspirational and thought-provoking read.
