I’m no good with words,
so pardon my courage.
It’s taken all night
to build to this point.
I know it’s a gamble
that cannot break even,
but win big or lose big,
you have to appoint.
You’ve laughed at my banter
and teased back your own,
confided in me
and sought help.
You’re a ----- and a scholar,
a purist, a playmate,
a soft ray of sunshine
when I’ve been unwell.
So here’s to the maybes
I don’t want to ask,
the chances
I think I might have,
The disarmament
of your morals and virtues
to the heart of
an ignorant lad.
And just like the millions
I’ve talked to before,
whose smiles I’ve called
on a whim,
Whose hearts I’ve invoked,
whose tears I’ve provoked,
and whose memories
lie in the wind,
I lean in and kiss
in a grand act of theft
and wait for the sentence
at hand.
Will I be dismissed
like the rest of the world,
Or maybe,
could I be your man?
