Sitting quietly in the dark
Candle burns
Strange shadows dance along
Catching my eye and my mind
if only for a moment
So much solitude around me
But it is like I won't...
I can't allow myself to indulge
for any lengths of time
Tethered to this pain
Thick and cumbersome this thing...
This unwanted thing
lays heavily upon strong
but already burdened
shoulders of a mad woman
Porch swing
memories sway
back and forth
days of long ago
So many other thoughts
tackled and mulled over
right here
Lights of neighbors
down road shine familiar
Solitude it suits now
I talk aloud to whom?
My self of course and
the farm...
~~She hears you know~~
Her presence felt strongly
Arms cradle me in times
of trouble and malice
Moments here pass by so slowly
Time... this place
so unchanged
Things are as they should be
uncomplicated
For if a mind be full
then the scenery needs to be fuller
Breathe in slow
In and Out
Country chill in the air
Firefly shines
Cricket calls
I feel my presence so small
amongst all of this
How many others
How many times
sat here on this porch...
Resting in her arms

Breath taking indeed. I absolutely adored this work of art. I loved the ability to capture the loneliness of solitude and then to be able to capture the peaceful contentment of knowing the world surrounds you even in solitude. The imagery is brilliant. I especially loved the "meat" of this work....stanzas 4, 5, and 6. Without the power and beauty in those stanzas this would have still been a great poem but those thoughts and that imagery is what makes this write excell far beyond just simply a poem about night time. The mood change is slight though the thoughts in the head of the poem's subject change somewhat dramatically. I can not tell you how amazing that is to see in any poem. It shows more than poetic talent, but the ability to tell a story and to captivate. This is indeed a breath taking and amazing write.
SUPERB!

Precious & needful in my esteem...your words have a beauty & depth we'd much miss if you let your pain take you beyond words & away from us...
I've lived is some of the most incredible surrounding, but, have yet to see fireflies in my lifetime & have always wanted to...mayhaps, I can use yours for my minds eye
'til I exprience them in truth...& that is the power of words!!!Your words, dear poetsis!

OH sis .. you transported me back to a time when I would visit
my grandparents' farm. There was nothing like the twilight
solitude of those days .... and this beautiful image-filled piece
drives those memories home. What a WONDERFUL bit
of nostalgia brought to beautiful life here ~
But still, I sense a melancholy swimming in your words, hun.
Nothing like the peacefulness of nature to stir the emotions
of the heart and mind eh? Gosh, I ADORE that last stanza.
The whole workup is just brilliant though.
Exceptional post, hun. Emotional and lovely
the way you personified the night.
peace and love,
~MG |

I've spent many nights doing this very
thing. I adore the country night and you
have taken my mind back to that place.
For this I must thank you. Great work.
Truly , Doug |
