Some parts of my soul saved for you,
Are neglected, a wasteland once more.
They belong to no other, but rarely are owned
For your love passes too quickly, too soon.
A smile and a welcome, still waiting,
My blessings whatever you do,
Are yours in the clutches of darkness,
Or as you dream by the light of the moon.
I will not pretend I don’t miss you,
Though another’s content with my hearth.
Lying still by the light of my fire
Not enough for you, never enough.
The Sun rises over the ocean,
Such vastness it took me to see
How a cage would surely be murder
From pining and sorrow within.
Then across my heart run wild horses,
Gleaming chocolate and roan in the Sun.
Set free to live life as you wanted
I knew someday you’d choose to run home.

This reminds me so much of letting go of my children and allowing them to be those free horses. I just couldn't coral them any longer and now they shine like the beauty of a group of stallions running and living life free and natural. Well done piece my friend.

There is a sadness in this my dear friend, but also a beautiful
freedom that sings only when allowed to be so. Excellent work
at being able to capture both!!
You have a marvelous skill for evoking emotion in your readers.
Exceptional work!!

I am in a sittuation now that is similar
to what you describe but I don't think
that is the only reason I am impressed
by this poem. Your writing is very good
and I believe the message would have
been conveyed just as powerfully had
I not been having my own wild horses
encounter. Great work , Truly , Doug |

Dom,
Your words have been moving since the first work of yours that I have read. The talent in your blood inked onto the page with your quill is something to admire and envy. You have a gift, and it is undeniable.
Coming in to this work my expectations were already high, because of what you have proven to be. Seeing the title (something wrote about and sung about that is always inspiring) excited me more. Yet you have taken the metaphor of "Wild Horses" to deeper and more poetic heights. There is such a sense of sadness yet a great deal of freedom making the mood almost conflicting which highlights your amazing ability to tell a story being vivid and luring the reader into whatever feeling you must be wanting them to feel at the time. This is damn crystal clear the very definition of poetry and something you should be proud of. I will be reading again. Also looking for your future writes. It is always a pleasure to visit your page.
SUPERIOR!

Wow, There was such a beauty but deep sadness and longing I felt in this write. I love the references to the "wild horses". Something once so wild, it roamed the earth free years and years ago, now tamed and domesticated...ahhhh but there are some which still run free. Great write.
Peace,

" i will not pretend I don’t miss you, " . . .
This line is very potent to say the least, i love the steadfast obstanance behind it. very lovely poem, a nice style of sincerity it portrays, not to mention the lingering ghost of heartbreak. Lovely peice.

Wild horses. Stunning creatures. (I'm actually sitting on some pics of wild horses that I'm intent on putting with a poem that I've not yet written). The whole concept of "breaking" a horse, breaks my heart. Worse maybe (or, at the very least, equally as sad), we humans sometimes do the same to one another. So intent we are to hold on tight to what we find beautiful. Yes, it is painful to watch as a beloved runs free... and away. Sadder, though, I think, would be if they had stayed only for having stripped of the choice to do otherwise. If you love something, set it free.... and all that.
The residual ache can be felt in this piece. Many readers, I think, will find familiarity in that regard. I certainly don't mean to disregard it by my comments above. It is, after all, what makes this piece so moving. Your opening lines, in and of themselves, spoke volumes.
Nice work here, Dom. I'm quite glad I didn't miss it.
