fooling around on cold nights with spinning bottles
in backseats, or in dark rooms on couches
drinking down the moments far too fast
numbing away all that's wrong
I refuse to regret
I just wish I could forget
the corner of your bed where my head used to lay
and how you'd just laugh when your wrists would ache
now it's all nothing
I guess we'll say that's my fault
for leaving you behind
how could I expect you to stay?
I was the one that walked away
from midnight's cigarrettes and opened windows
from movies that we never watched
why'd you have to feel so much?
why was I so scared?
letting go of what I had
this hurts much less than it seems
there's nothing left for you and me
I'm tripping over what I can't see
slurring words
and running through empty streets
falling against lamp posts
and falling into dirt
I'm trying to say I'm happy
for whatever it's worth
changing who I am
and wishing I was never who I was
can't we just speak?
I'll keep my hands behind my back
cause habitual emotion's something neither of us lack
drinking down a memory
forgetting who I am
I'm letting go of everything
I'll let you walk away
but only for this moment
until I forget
about what I've said
about what you did
I guess there's not that much to miss
letting go of what I had
this hurts less than it seems
there's nothing left for you and me
I'm tripping over what I can't see
slurring words
and running through empty streets
falling back on lamp posts
falling into dirt
I'm trying to say I'm happy for whatever this was ever worth

Holy heck!!! (and welcome to YPDC)
There is a severe sadness to this that possesses the heart in the worst
way- a break away, but with a very melancholy overtone. It's so gripping!
I especially love the last stanza and the way it was repeated from
above. It gives it a certain credence when it is repeated in this way.
And WOW! what a stanza! It's bloody brilliant. I don't mean to dissect
the piece, as the whole thing, in its entirety is so completely emotion-
filled, but the metaphors in that stanza, alone are enough to impress,
and DAMN! the emotion that is dripping from every line chokes the heart entirely!
Excellent post. First rate write!

happy welcome to ypdc......
the title caught my eye as Vegas is near me and some of my favorite stomping groud there but the poem was different than I was expecting. Such a sad write you captured sadness and being lonely perfectly.
