Animosity Stirs

Animosity stirs the air between us
So far and yet so near the brink
Disaster stalks each breath we take
Rigid backs and speechless meals
Tight lipped words and downcast eyes
Is this the way it has to be?
Afraid to plunge into the truth
Fearful of the long dark night
When conscience mocks the beating heart
So like a clock that’s lost its time
Anger bursts in sudden flame
Hissing accusations glare
Reflecting all the guilt on you
When did you learn to wear the shame?
Carry consequence on your back
Mold the guilt into a crown
That surely Christ would recognize
You kneel down to pray
Forgiveness is the gift you seek
Because you dare not ask for what you want.
