Who am I

who am I
if not to be
a simple face
to hide and seek
my beauty
hides inside my mind
I think perhaps
hard to find
call me pretty
call me smart
these things I never take to heart
I am what lies inside
not on the outer edge
a blade so vulgar and twisted
sharpened to the sides
rabid and wild
eccentric and odd
these things are what I hide
set me free and let me be
the piece of me you need to see
look into my mind
beyond the pretty eyes
and see the me
the darker side
a fable with no moral
yet always seems to be
I am just who I am
whether it be
right or pretty
watch me dance
when it is not time
watch me hum
with not a rhyme
who am I if not this simple face?
I am just who I am
no frills and no grace
take it in and let it spin
upon your mind a moment
I think you will like me better
once you think upon it

Oh my dear Kandice ... yes, there is more to you than meets the eye,
(as are we all, no doubt). This, seems to me, (if I might be so bold), to
be more about acceptance than anything else. And BOY! we could
sure share some stories where that is concerned, I'll bet!!
Yes. It is always more wonderful to be loved and revered for our
true identities, no? But, I have found, to really and truly find acceptance
in others, we must first find it in ourselves. I have ofttimes been
witness to a friend who is quick to forgive someone for a wrong
and then beat themselves up over the same flaw in themselves.
(and I am as guilty as anyone for that)
There may be darkness, but where we find the dark, we also find
the light .. and I, for one, would rather know my friends intimately,
scars and all, than to never really know their depth, dear poet.
Emtional and thought provoking write ... really exquisite work!

You are a bit like a transformer (more than meets the eye, lol). Seriously a out pour of a great paradox within oneself. Most people (especially those who are outside the norm) feel that they are not outwardly all they completely are inside. And even more cursed are those who do not completely know who they are on the inside so they struggle to know how to be on the outside. Darkness is necessary as a Christian it is considered ill of me by most to speak of a yin and yang. Yet this is essential to Christianity, any other faith, and humankind completely. You see without the dark inside of us there is no need for a spiritual savior. And no it doesn't ever go away because part of humanity's curse is that there is always going to be a dark side. The only thing is how much will we let that side dim over the light within us. It's an amazing struggle quite poetic and very beautiful even with a guarded dark half. We are good, we are evil. We are gray. But nothing promotes the light gray like the slate gray. If were just simply one sided we wouldn't be good. For being good is essentially overcoming bad. Otherwise what we consider being good would just be doing what is expected. I hope that makes sense.
I adored this piece. A fascinating work with a great structure and well chosen words. A flow that makes it easy to follow and to understand.
SUPERB! |

very well wrote, it shows how much time an effort you put into your poetry. We should all read that poetry and maybe behind the mask we all choose to hide, we might take it off and if everyone was to do this then maybe the world would be so much different. Maybe everyone would be happier, would be able to be a little in touch with theirselves if only for a moment. Then maybe everyone will be free and life would be so much less complicated as to which we make it every day to display our fears and take away conformaity. But then again without this mask maybe thats what keeps people sanity, their mind intact. Very good poem i commend you greatly on it, very thought provoking. |
