I saw you in his eyes
and in that moment
the laughter subsided
memories we spoke of
how funny and sweet
but in that moment our eyes did meet
I saw you in his eyes
and I think he saw you in me
because in that second
we both began to see
holding to a crutch
memories we do not want to fade
your wry half smile
was on his face today
I saw you
and Oh God I almost cried
and I am sure I saw it
a tear in his eye
God, why did you go?
I feel lost here
without you in the world
No words I pen
can begin to express
the maze of my thoughts
my emptiness
each thought, each memory
every one
all so...
so incredible
all lost upon you
I say to myself
this will get better
but you are gone
and I know it's forever
you haunt me!
Oh yes-
and my guilt keeps growing
and I cannot
I cannot divide
the difference in then
and now that you've died
I know that one day
my tears will go
but you took a piece of me
my heart, and my soul
when you took your last breath
my mind went cold
I always thought
we would find another chance
to have our song
to have our dance
but I waited
just a little too long
and now I settle
to sing your grave our song
my heart so longs
for just one more second with you
but how I do not deserve it
but God how I love you
Sometimes I wish
you had taken me
then my heart would not hurt
when I think of you
The things I cannot tell you
I write on this paper
and hope you can see them
and know I never stopped loving...
today I saw you
in your brother's eyes
and I know a piece of you survived
but in that moment
we both knew
this world can never be beautiful
without Jerry Lane
the cowboy, the rebel, the funny, the true
the world is not whole
not without you

Oh my gosh, Kandice ... there is, I'm sure, a tear for every soft, kind, gentle and beautiful
remembered thought on this page. How stunning a write, in both sentiment and word choice.
I laboured to understand why you chose to post this as dark, but then realized, when you
lose someone, someone that means so very much to you, there is a darkness you carry ..
always. I know this intimately. And I struggle with it still .....
wow. This was powerful. SO incredibly powerful. It might be the mood that I felt today,
but this actually caused me to tear up. Very strong emotion you captured, my friend. And
great poetry is always accompanied by emotion .. by passion ... by substance. You
defined that undeniably. You've got an amazing talent that never fails to grab me by
the heart strings. Damn fine post!!

I am so sorry for this loss you suffered.
This poem makes the reader stand beside the depths of your aching heart and feel and breath each tear and emotion.

This was so beautiful, so moving, I really don't know where to begin with it. The way you wrote in itself was perfection to its highest I think, and the words were on target with every mood.
You have a gift that should never be wasted. |

I am so sorry for your loss, you are in my thoughts.
There is such sadness in this that it could make anyone grieve, and that last stanza is achingly beautiful. When someone close to us dies or is in pain, how often it feels that all the lights in our world grow a shade dimmer. Brightness will find you once again, and cracks will heal.
Take care,
Dom |

This my dear sister is absolutely deep and searing emotional poetry. I know of this situation and know how inspired you have been over this tragic loss. Though I feel you must know because the laughter subsided in your life you have learned not to take such small things as wry half smiles for granted. This is poetry and this is the kind of work that inspired me when you were so young and full of poetic flare to pick up the pen myself. A completely emotional and capturing masterpiece full of the wonder which is in your heart. Be proud of this and know your heart will go on as long as you harbor the abilities to express it.
EXCELLENT!
