Exit Plan

Contributed by spike on Sunday, 10th June 2007 @ 01:47:56 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Mandala: Wheel of Birth and Death

I speculate about the end,
what will herald my demise
an accident, or design,
unfortunate or in good time.

A sudden impact to the head,
the twist of metal into skin
a sniper’s shot from distant hills,
or the ignominy of bitter pills.

Perhaps a sadness of the heart,
or assassins hiding in the blood
an event of sorts behind the eyes;
to awaken means the dreamer dies.

Face down in my breakfast bowl,
a testimony to the Fates
a thread away from here and gone;
one more loss to grieve and mourn.

An heroic act, one can hope,
or to drift away in sleep’s repose
the path is laid for all to tread;
still I wonder, what will leave me dead?

Spike, The diversity of your writing is like a breath of fresh air. I never know what I am going to find...and I love that about you. Love the picture of the Mandala, that one is very beautiful with the colorations.
I enjoyed how you contemplated your ending moments. I've thought too, what will the day be like. My wish.... to live to be an old pot-smoking lady....I'll just get high and go to sleep, never waking. *laughs* Unfortunately we cannot determine our last day....or can we? Some would say that we dream our own destinies...our own fates. I'll stick with the one above. lol I hope you live a long life my friend and your death be sweet and painless. If we don't get to meet in this life, man....maybe the next one huh? *smiles* Enjoyed the read and the many thoughts provoked by it.
Peace,
Laura

I agree with Laura, I love the diversity in the topics you cover.
On a personal level this poem got me thinking, there are so many possibilities and I guess you never truly know until you get there. What you say in the last stanza seem to be the best ways to go, but then again the majority of us won't really have much choice in the matter!
Brilliantly self-reflective and thought provoking,

Dom

S,

my dear friend. Being that I'm in a melancholy mood, perhaps I should not
have read this tonight ... but still, there is much to be said for the ponderance of that
inevitable darkness. Interesting, your suggestions of the fate of your demise ....
how will we meet our end, and will we, in fact be as prepared as we need, or feel we
should be? hmmmm ... methinks not. There is always something more to do .. someone
more we need to meet ... another button to sew...

fate. She is a wicked sort of muse. And yet, we all fall in love with her over and over
again. When she is kind, there is no one more beautiful ... though, in time we will all
live to curse her once again. But in the end .. she knows our secrets. She knows when it
will happen and how. All we can do is sit, ponder and read wonderfully thought
provoking pieces of poetry like this. I, for one, do NOT care to know how or when. It's
enough for me to just know, one day, I'll cease, and hope that I've done what I was
supposed to do on this earth.

Great write, my friend. Nice to see you have not lost your touch ~

I'm not one for contemplating my demise but if I must, then,'to drift away in sweet repose',sounds like a good exit to me ,Spikito.
I could read a book of your poems and then read it again.

Spike,

Firstly this was magnificent and I agree that you have an amazing ability to be diverse and never skip a beat as a poet. Personally I hate to ponder on death, but we all do it. We all run into various moments where death is the center of our attention. Yet the less we practice this the more we love the endurance of life.

Of the many ways of death you explained I think you've done this well. Many paranoid and common ideas on how the average man or woman can die were displayed in a geuine poetic fashion. Well done all around!

BRAVO
