Is Ignorance Bliss?

Contributed by Wilder on Friday, 8th June 2007 @ 05:51:27 PM in AEST
Topic: hbadday

I hear them tell me ignorance is bliss
But what they don’t know is this
They can take a hike
I’ll think what I like

It’s just an excuse not to acknowledge
That people around them are on the edge
Of saying something they really shouldn’t
They want to but they know they couldn’t

Retaliation is a gyp
Truth turns into a hurtful quip
The tables are spun around
Until the truth comes shattering to the ground

In a pile of hate
And by then it’s too late
To bite your tongue and pretend
Like it never happened again and again

So when you feel like telling me
That speech is a privilege and isn’t free
I’ll turn myself around and shake my head
If free speech goes from here, what then?

Hallelujah, Amen and Praise
To all of those who will raise
The point of bringing up the problem
And bring it crashing down upon them

The trouble that they’re causing
The secrets they’re applauding
The nonsense they churn out day and night
Not knowing, caring if they’re right

They have their groups, their huddles, their mass
Believing in their minds that they’re first class
When really they need to know
That class and tattling doesn’t go

Together in a perfect group
Gossiping for the perfect scoop
It makes no sense, what is ignorance for?
So those of us better can take the floor

And prove to them that they were wrong
And that we knew this all along
So if you hear ignorance is bliss
Just give that conversation a miss

On the other hand, if ignorance is bliss, then there are some very blissful people around at times.

Nice poem.

Take care,

Tim
