The Vase

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Friday, 8th June 2007 @ 03:03:03 AM in AEST
Topic: ambiguous

A blackened vase sits
upon the shelf of life
So many fractures
in the glass
Unbelievable how
the tiny fragments
could be put back together

If you look closely
you can faintly see the lines
of flowers and trees
Birds and bees
and all the world
including the seas
All jaggedly placed

Surface of the vase
now not so smooth
Run fingers over the sides
and the many glued pieces
can be felt
So rough...
So mosaic

What would you do
with such a broken vase?
Place it somewhere safe?
Look at it
never use...
just see it in it's place?
Maybe you'd pour in water
to see if she still holds
You see some adhesive
still clinging to the fissures
You see the water seeping
ever so slightly
The vase has been mended
but will never be the same
Please don't pick it up
and throw it away
It still holds the flowers
you once dried...
and simply
tucked away

What an astounding and wonderful metaphor!
There are pieces of ourselves (and of others also) that we cherish inexplicably, for even though they are not new and smooth they are still important parts of who we are and relics of the past.
Lovely ending also.

Take care
Dom

To everything, there is a purpose, eh sis? Yes, how lovely this
metaphor is and how beautifully conveyed by you. Through life there
is going to be breaks, bruises and scars, but they are only to show
the wearing of time. Have you ever noticed how the sunshine
through a cracked vase casts a multitude of colours of the spectrum?
It's glorious ... sometimes what we think is damaged, is actually a
blessing of change that makes us better somehow ... more
beautiful even. We grow, we learn, we change. And I think
that is one of the most wonderful things about life and love ...

(you certainly got me thinking with this one, sis. BRAVO!! )

*hugs*

I loved this sis, though broken the vase still holds all the beauty of birds and bee's and tree's, broken and mended and weeping though still together.... so real with life isn't it?

Love you sis

Michelle
