The Note

Contributed by DeeMeister on Wednesday, 6th June 2007 @ 09:04:42 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

From the deceitful hand of another,
One once loved,
A note.
Simple in its content but my eyes burn with stingy nostalgia.
I love you.
A reminder of something beautiful to me that was not lost, but destroyed and torn apart.
Cacophonous emotions choke the back of my throat.
It is just a note.
A false sentiment committed to paper,
But the black words grip me.
Long buried in my over romanticized novels that fuelled my childish expectations,
A keep sake that meant the world to my yet untainted heart,
Now falls in front of me, invoking the pain that so often creeps upon me.
Bitterness and frustration grip me,
Will I ever be free of the shadow that seizes me?
Will I always choke on the bitterness that serves to destroy any future happiness?
The bitterness tastes of my own too plentiful failings, my weakness for him.
My own weaknesses projected onto that small note,
I love you.
And that is a failing I will lock away and swallow back when the overwhelming feeling threatens to choke me.
I will burn the note,
But my amorous weakness that cripples me will continue to smoulder.

I think you captured well that feeling of betrayal when something that used to make you happy now only brings pain. Such as a note from a lost love or a picture of a dead loved one. They say time heals all things, but there are exceptions to most rules.

As the reader, I felt that you were conveying a betrayal that maybe should have left you tarnished, but yet we all have a weakness for love, unbounded by what we know better than to seek. I truly enjoyed reading your poem~Kandice

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
