Yesterday, A Shadow

yesterday I saw a shadow
as it passed by so slowly, dim
a remembrance of forgotten mistakes
enveloped me as I saw him
shriveled in time
lost in my mind
whatever this is
it is not mine
he beckons me today
to a place-
we all know the way
"play" he says
so welcoming
yet I know what is beneath
the shade
a yellow eye of despair
he pulls upon my mind
the weakness of desperation
the allegory of time
yesterday I saw a shadow
and still he beckons me
though fading into the moonlight
his twisted, teasing way
"do not tarry too long dear soul"
for only he knows the way.
to feel a shelter is not so sweet
for he will return
and you will take the seat!

Welcome to YPDC chicklet!!! :)
Good grief girl!! Your words are not merely swimming in darkness, they are DROWNING
in them!! I know not how you meant this, but that shadow, to this reader at least, reminds
me of death .. he gently enters, whispering of fabled time, frightening to behold, and yet,
somehow enticing in a "I-can't-resist-the-darkness" kind of way. Moreso, to poets, methinks.
You really captured an essence here, Kandice and captured it WELL! Your imagery
casts an eerie spell on the reader, creating the atmosphere to lift and carry your thoughts
from mind to page to mind. It is a rare and wonderful thing when the poet can exact emotion
with such seemingly little effort!
An exceptional first post! I can't wait to read more!!

Welcome to YPDC! I can not tell you how wonderful it is to see your words here. I loved your poem immesely, especially the darkness. Your view of death on death is not at all depressing as much a beautiful darkness that entices but causes us fear. I can not think of a more poetic and amazing way to describe death. And this only excites me more because I know what is to come of you. This, is a brilliant first post. I hope you enjoy your stay on YPDC!
BRAVO!

I enjoyed this poem. was it based on the picture, or was the picture based on it, or did they just go well together? Anyways, wonderfully done, and I look forward to more of your work, although I am curious on what you meant the shadow to be. |
