by way of tears

Contributed by iodinelove on Monday, 4th June 2007 @ 09:01:38 AM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

I feel old today, searching my heart for something to remember.
Maybe an aching love throttled by the flights of time, brought down at the very end by nothing more than my own fear.
Or maybe an old friend should be endeared, and writ here on, and be preserved- that she might be known by words and by the very sounds of words, so that she too might take her leave and be gone from me.

So often, I hear the engine of an old car and look behind me, and remember-and it is that I am torn by the joy of seeing clearly for the first time my love for her, and the pain in the knowledge that it is only a memory.

When I am with new friends she is forgotten, or becomes a moment in recollection- to tell tale of her dance with the drink, or the drugs we did together- that I may provide proof of my own experience.

Yet, when I am alone-
When I am alone, I stretch to crumbling photos, tracing the endless shadows of her sadness more often than the jubilation that grew in her laughter.
In those moments, I find my heart remembers, swells, and pushes back the lonely faded face by way of tears.

Sad and just beautifully expressed. A good read.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
