What a delightful little treat

I remember when I was in the 6th grade
Every week my class would take a multiplication test
One hundred question in two minutes
and if you were to get 70 of them right
the teacher gave you a delicious sour gummy straw
To get 80 of them right you’d get 2
90 right get 3 and to get all
one hundred of them right, you’d get 4
I would only get no more than 70
And I’d sit there eating my lonely straw gummy
as all the other kids had 3 or 4
Even the times I didn’t get 70 right
A friend (who got 4) would always give me one,
all out of pitty
there I would be with my one
and the other kids would be licking, sucking,
lapping up the sugary goodness
Oh the envy I had,
No matter how long studied
and practiced for the weekly quizzes
I would always get around 70 right
It stayed like this way all my 6th grade year
Test day, my peers celebrated
their fine candy feast
And I would shamefully take
my one
even though I never cried, or lost any sleep
from these incidences,
But now even to this day
when I go out to the grocery store
or movie theater and see
these delightful little treats,
of sour gummy straws
I buy a pack knowing
that I can have more than just
one
