Brave Knight
Canto 4 Book 2
Stanzas 8 and 9
“Tis a thing most devoutly I wished gained
to be with you at Playston Manor known.
Forsooth to be the wife of knight all famed
with brazen leopard shield that’s brightly shone.
To be within embrace thence lying prone
and know the comfort having thee at side.
All future certain being nay alone
to face the future’s rise and ebbing tide.
Give me the wedding day that we can yea abide.
“ Love, methinks time of wedding feast can be
when crocus bears its white amid the green
and loam bedecks itself for you and me
whence sprays of hues resplendent fain are seen.
Then be thou people’s Playston Manor queen
to reign and govern oak and stone abode.
For wee lads, lassies seek on thee to lean,
their mother little troubles they will load.
It mayest be that they could bringest thee a toad.”
