I’m done saying sorry to you,
With a soft chuckle and a sad smile,
I look down at the paper and realize this.
Happiness is complex though.
I don’t just see it white and black.
I wish I did, but that’s not where things hit me.
I don’t go into things with this intention.
I suppose I observe too much and don’t perpetuate enough.
My lasting effect is probably the same as the effect I get.
But sometimes I uncover a real wonder.
I describe it but can’t finish the sentence.
Not because I can’t think of words, I just don’t want to.
I wish I’d explore this side of life more.
I just can’t get my habits to reflect my wishes.
Go figure, maybe that’s the struggle of life.
You know, I wish you ‘d explored things this way.
Put yourself out there, you’d be surprised how non-threatening it is.
You’ve got a beautiful mind and I’ll miss that.
I think of some of the best music I’ve ever heard when I think of you.
I think of some of the most brilliant bodies of water.
And I think of gorgeous eyes in the foreground of a mystifying sunrise.
But suns always set, and they keep rising.
I’d love to see you through all of that, but this time it’s not meant to be.
When the waves break on the ocean as the dawn turns to dusk and the black water reflects the moon in the sky, I know the warm salty ocean water won’t taste the same when you leave in the morning.
I wish you’d leave your imprint on my memory as just a good dream, but unfortunately, it’s real.
