Riding off on an Orange Peel

I heard a ghost it called me out the other night
It wasn’t looking for words
It didn’t ask for time
Just a moment where it could pour out all it had felt
All that I’d heard in my head
Everything we had said
Singing love on the pedals
Of some shook up afternoon
Your tortured memories hang like medals
I’d award you some, but I’d be joining you soon
Fixing figures, running circles, chasing thoughts
Never felt in control, always seemed helpless
I couldn’t understand something simplistic
No, I never had the chance
There was some ignorance
It was broken and nothing was left
So should I thank a murderer?
You were an idol love; you were what I should steal
Now I’m an empty carton
A torn up pack of smokes
No addiction to soothe your garden
Just an absence of what chokes
Someday soon I’ll see the mirror on my backdoor screen
Sitting there, reflecting air
All rusted and dusting in a foreign home I grew up in
It just sits and stares waiting for someone to show
So it can be two in one
The even of a greater sum
But I’m in planes, in games, in paparazzi paradise
Watching what it’s all about just passing by
With no hopes of recovery
No desire for change
It’s a wonder who loves me
Is always coming off strange
The peak of time, the phantom’s call, the twenty year old
So adult for once
Battered up and grown
She weaks, she speaks, it seems so indifferent
What was this thing I knew?
Was it some accident?
Now hope falls on an hourglass
Sunshine there is no sand
Just stubbornness, what a way to show
That in high school math class I once wrote
And began writing, to understand what I felt
For you, for everything
And what irony, the first thing was so innocent and true
Then anything else I’d ever find
Saying, “I wish we could”
“I’d like to sail away, on an orange peel”
“But fate, it seems”
“Would rather break that seal”
