You don't even know what I'm saying,
When my infamy is my claim to fame,
And the only thing that outweighs my pain,
Is my constant everlasting shame.
I cannot look my friends in the eye,
I bow my head so they know I am less.
For years I have wished that I could just cry,
But I hold it under the surface.
My face is always in the shadows,
And for years the sun has not touched my eyes.
I flinch for no reason that I know,
I speak only to apologize.
Look at the monster that you all hate,
That man that you think you can't relate to.
The killer, the rapist, the reprobate,
Can't you see a piece of him in you?
Will you deny the shame that you feel?
Or can you accept the fact that you sin?
Can you live your life as though it's not real?
Or will you face the mess that you're in?
I have lived up to expectations,
Faltering without fail and falling fast.
I am honest without reservation,
I feel unbounded shame for my past.
