Angels in Virginia

Contributed by Franciswolf on Tuesday, 17th April 2007 @ 03:09:11 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Did you cry sweet child tonight?
As snow fell with blood and goodness lost sight?
When hammer shots rang out round the place,
And camera’s rolled in to catch the horror on your face?

Well, sleep baby sleep. There are angels in Virginia
There’s comfort in the deep.
Rest, honey rest.
I’ve never got martyrs, strung up and dying
If a person just worsens and keeps crucifying.

I heard the blasts of an age, something sacred was caged.
The war zone of education and its cynical rage.
If beauty can’t live without ugliness,
Let’s rid them both, so neither exists

Snowmen with assault weapons,
Tie wearing men with tied up agendas,
A mother with a phone that just keeps ringing
Mass is open, keep singing, keep dreaming

In some other place, what could we face?
It’s never been so real,
A denying proof, its truth?
Do you feel sweet child, do you feel?

Angels in Virginia fluttering their wings,
Thirty two times, up and down
If God stays high in the sky
Why can’t the devil just stay in the ground?
And if beauty can’t live without ugliness,
Let’s rid them both, so neither exists

This is powerful, and beautiful. Thank you for being one of the few here who was able to touch this event with some much-needed words.

Andrew

You have expressed yourself so eloquently and beautifully it is impossible to stay emotionless and to not get caught up in it.
I truly enjoyed reading this, it was masterful, and I agree with Andrew's comments.

Dom
