It was nearing the end of summer, but our relationship was new
It was August turning September, but here I was with you
It was the first time I said I love you, and you said I love you too.
Here is where I held you, just above the waist
Here is where I kissed you, on this lazy summer day
Here is where my heart lies, in this very same place.
I can still remember exactly how the sun hit your blue eyes
I can still remember how your semi-naked body tanned under sunny skies
I can still remember what you sound like when you cry.
I can’t say it gave me pleasure to watch you suffer
I can’t say it made me feel any tougher
I can’t say I live with no regrets, but, then again
I can’t say anyone can.
